A tour of Manchester

Tuesday's walk was somewhat different

13 of took the train into Manchester and Martin had arranged a tour of some of the interesting sites. A rough map of the route we took is shown. We started at the 1st world war memorial in Picadilly station - well worth a detour while passing through. Unfortunately the group picture was not in focus!

Other highlights for me were the Godlee observatory on the roof of the old UMIST Sackville building with its unusual roof construction, the Turing memorial gardens, Peterloo memorial, Lincoln Square, the Hidden Gem, the Arena memorial and the Ghandi statue. Plenty of others and unfortunately we could not visit the James Rylands library as it is closed on a Tuesday. How much has changed since my student days.

We all enjoyed it enormously and a big thank you to Martin and Sue for their research.
